Four Eyes

I've put off getting my eyes checked for over a year. Before I went home for the visit last year I was noticing that things were a little blurry when I walked home from work. I just thought it was because everything was neon flashing lights and that's the way it is. Recently I've been getting bad headaches. I thought it was just stress, being tired or the changing of seasons etc. This week I had some killer headaches and then I realized that the students in the back row's faces were a tiny bit out of focus. I knew that I had to get them checked out mainly because if I did need glasses it's much cheaper to get them here, than back home.

I was able to walk in to an eye glass shop at 9:30pm, get my eyes checked and in 5 minutes find out that I'm near sighted. He put some lenses in a tester pair of frames and told me to walk around to see how they felt. I didn't notice any difference. He told me to look out to the street. I then proceeded to laugh like a lunatic because all the neon flashing signs outside were clear! I could see everything! Here I had been for more than a year with everything in the distance blurry and didn't even notice.

I've always known that I was very blessed with good vision for so long, when the rest of my family has needed glasses for years. I'm not afraid of getting old, but this feels like my body is beginning to fall apart. Yes, I'm being extreme. I feel like a little bit of a nerd. Yes, I know this is a terrible stereotype. It didn't help when all of my students said that they think I look much better without the glasses. One even shouted "ugly!" ha. (meanwhile this was the ugliest kid in the group...)

Oh well, at least they're cheap here and I'll buy up a bunch before I leave. I got one pair of frames for $15 and one for $35. Not too shabby.

Crazy! The pair of glasses that I got last year cost me around $500! Buy a bunch while you can.
