Going, Going, Gone

Yesterday I went back the French consulate. I waited with about 10 other people who were all back for the second attempt at their visas. At least I wasn't the only one that didn't have their ducks in a row.

I gave her my papers and she looked them over and told me to wait in the other room. After a few minutes another guy came in to wait as well. Then two other girls followed him. We waited for about 45 minutes. In that time I got their stories of what they're doing and what kind of visa they're applying for. The girls got jobs as English assistant teachers in the public school system. It was through the same program (CIEP) that I was thinking of applying to back in the winter. AND we're going to be on the same flight on Saturday.

This means that I got the visa! I was so relieved. I had to start thinking about plan B would be if I didn't get it. Although I would have been ok with making new decisions about the future, I was pretty happy that I'm able to do what I wanted to do in the first place.

So I leave on Saturday. It's always overwhelming to move, but let me tell you that moving overseas is 10 times worse. I do it because I find that the reward is 10 times greater. If you've never tried it, you should, at least once.

I haven't started packing, but that comes as no surprise. Believe it or not, I'm freaking out a lot less than usual. Maybe it's that I know it's all going to come together just like it always does. Maybe it's that I know stressing out about it doesn't help at all, but just gives me a headache. Maybe it's the 6 months I've had off to relax and have a good time has put me in a cool-as-a-cucumber state.

All I know is I'm friggin' excited. There are a lot of unknowns about this upcoming year, but I'm going to do my best to make it a good one.

Wow, Sarah! I am green with jealousy. Where will you be staying in France? I was in Provence this summer, and it was absolutely rewarding exprience.

Good luck with your new job!
