Smart and bored

Yesterday's senior class was much better than usual. I told them that things were going to be different this class. They were so shocked. I didn't tell them why we weren't reading from their regular text book or why they didn't have to write a test or an essay. They weren't complaining though. They had already finished their 8 essays that I needed for the report cards and I didn't feel like making up a test for the article we were reading. I had them work in groups which they never do because they're so out of control. Some of them were pretty loud, but the amount of English they were speaking was unreal so I thought it was fine. I had them come up with as many underwater creatures and things without using their textbooks or dictionaries. If they could think of someting in Korean I had them explain it to me in English and then i'd tell them what it's called. It worked like a charm. It was actually better if they did't know what the word was because then they were giving themselves the definition and then the word was easier to remember! And they thought they were having fun....ha! (I'm not going to lie and say it wasn't nice for me too...sometimes you just need a break from the boring stuff) These kids are so smart. They're just so bored with the course material that they have no desire to try!
