Everyday Things

There are so many things here that I hardly think about anymore. They've just become everyday. I'm trying not to forget about the different/special/strange things, so here are a few that make me laugh.

- Guys with purses, or large feminine bages if you prefer

- The back door on the driver's side of taxi's don't open.

- Squid stands are the equivilant of hotdog vendors back home

- You can get anything delivered to you, including yogurt. That's right, there are ladies on scooters, wearing yellow, who deliver yogurt to your door.

- When a new store, restaurant or pretty much anything opens these flower things are given to them. I guess this new place had a lot of friends and well wishers.

- Young children often have perms/dyed hair. I'm not talking young as in 7, think young as in 2 or 3!

- Men wear pink and a lot of it.

- There are sock, hat, purse, hair accessory, cell phone charm etc. etc. stands everywhere.

- Spitting in public is ok, but blowing your nose isn't.

- There are these buttons on tables in most restaurants that you press when you need the waitress. They come immediately. We call them the "yogi-yo buttons" (yogi-yo is what you call out if there is no button!)

- You can get green tea and corn flavoured anything. (ice cream, cereal, pizza, yogurt, even canned drinks!)

- People sit outside of the cornerstore and loiter for hours. It's encouraged.

- There are these coffee push carts around some touristy areas to sell to all the vendors.

- They do this Korean flower manicure thing that smells really bad and dyes your fingers orange. Eventually the orange on the fingertips wear off, but the nails remain stained this awful colour. It's supposed do be really good for your nails. I just can't get over the smell.

I love this blog entry! hahaha, I absolutely died when I saw that you took a picture of some guy with a man-bag on the subway! It made me think about how yesterday on my way home from the supermarket, I saw an old lady literally hunched over half-way, and I REALLY wanted to take a picture (I even had my camera iwth me) but I thought it would be rude :( I've been needing to try and document more of these mundane things too.

The best observation ever was the loitering! I never even considered how it's not looked kindly upon in Canada. Or that people who look to be about 100 years old are sitting around outside the corner stores cackling toothless grins away over a game of padook or traditional Korean-Cards. (Maybe that's just Mokpo? ahaha)
