Scott

This is Scott, one of my precious little basic 3's. He never, ever does his homework (which might not be that surprising for an older kid, but for a young basic it makes me think that something is wrong. All the little basics do anything they can to impress me and show me that they're a good student) Finally I asked Yu-na ( one of the super smart kids in the class) to ask him in Korean why he never does his homework. I just wanted to know if he simply didn't understand or there was another reason. After she finally got a word out of him he said that he "just wants to play". I melted. Well of course he just wants to play! I was so relieved to know that he understood what was going on. After calling his father on several occasions and figuring out that in this case a call home just wasn't going to do it. Justin (the korean staff who oversees my classes) decided that he would help him with is homework for 40 minutes after each class. Justin is just such a good person. He doesn't get paid more for doing this and it takes up what little time he has to do manditory work. Scott has improved so much. He's participating more and takes his work a little more seriously. He never complains the way other students do. The way he smiles at me makes me just want to adopt him. I really want to bring this kid home with me. After class he always waits for me and we walk to the counter together. If i'm busy for a second he puts the desks and chairs back in order. He has this little fan/laser/light and atena that he taped all together and plays with it constantly. I always have to take it away from him. I guess its one of our rituals. I love the way he says "ok" to anything I tell him to do.
