I'm back
A lot has changed since I was able to write here last. I was told I had to leave my friend's place where I was crashing. I knew that it was imminent, but it came sooner than I expected. I quickly started searching the internet for an apartment. I posted ads and contacted agents. I signed up on sites matching people looking for a place to live with people looking for a roommate.
All of this was going on while I had a case of bronchitis keeping me from doing much of anything. The baby, mother and nanny all caught it too. Needless to say, November was a difficult month.
Despite the scammers all over Craigslist I decided to give it another shot. I visited a few apartments, but didn't get the feeling I needed to know that it was the right place for me. Finally I contacted a guy who posted on Craigslist. The apartment was in my price range. When I went to view the place and meet the guy he was just moving in himself. There was no electricity yet and boxes were all over the place. Even though things weren't perfect, I had that gut instinct that I always trust. I knew that it was where I should be. It's located in the Asian district of the city. (so I feel right at home. I've got the best of both worlds here!!) There are really good/cheap restaurants all over the place. It's a minute walk from the subway and tram. I have my own room, we have a relatively large common room, kitchen and bathroom. It took a month but we finally have the internet, phone line and cable hooked up. Things are really coming together.
I'm feeling so much better now. It's amazing how much happier I am now that I have a place to call my own. Not that things were bad at my old place, but I can see now that I wasn't really happy. It's not easy to feel at ease or happy when you're squatting on someone's couch without a real place to put my things. My roommate was never even around and it was getting lonely.
My new roommate is great. He's helpful and kind. He's fluent in English since he's lived in Canada and the US for work for many years. We get along well, which is a huge relief seeing that we found each other on Craigslist and you never know what you'll get on there! We're going to throw a Christmas party this week and we're thinking about having a New Years Eve party chez nous as well.
I've begun decorating my room and settling in. It's hard to believe that it's already been 3 months. I feel as though 1 year isn't enough. I wish there was a way to stay longer. My visa only allows me to work for one year and not a day more.
My boss has asked me to stay with them for two years! I doubt that will be possible for many reasons, but it's nice to feel so needed.
I have no idea what the future holds. Now that I'm settled in here it's time for me to start thinking about what I want to do next. I go back and forth between wanting to settle down somewhere and continuing to move to new/interesting places as long as I can. I'll start researching later. Now that I'm feeling better, have my jobs and an apartment I've been going out a lot more and spending time with old and new friends. Life is good in Paris.
