And so it goes...

Week two down and still no job. I'm feeling hopeful though. I have another interview tomorrow with another English teaching to French company. It's hard to know what exactly the job will be through their websites. They don't exactly have a section of their webpage that deals with the teachers, but it's more like "if you have these qualifications and your mother tongue is English send us your C.V" I've done so with so many companies that when I hear back from one of them I don't even remember applying to it.

The new FUSAC magazine came out today and there are lots of ads for English teachers. Most of them are for business English, but who knows what exactly they need. That could work.

The other night I hung out with my Costa Rican friend and his Italian friend. I met him 5 years ago at St. Denis, Paris 8, the university I went to. We quickly became good friends because we had a few special things in common. It's incredible seeing someone again after so much time has passed. He looks the exact same. I find it extremely difficult to understand French when people are speaking in groups. At a party I'm completely lost, when people are talking about something specific or I missed a part of the conversation. Or if they use too many "en" or "y" that replace the noun I get all confused. I have a headache most days from straining so hard to listen to each friggin word that comes out of their mouths. The look on my face when someone is talking must be hilarious.

So there I was sitting with two people who are completely fluent in French, but neither of them are French. Actually they're both fluent in like 3 or 4 languages and are working on others. It's incredible to me. I've been working on my French for who knows how long and I'd rate myself a 4 out of 10. I've got a long way to go.

The good news is that I watched Inglorious Bastards before I left for France and I needed to read the subtitles to get a good grasp on what they were saying. I watched it again here, without the subtitles and I actually understood what they were saying. (and not just because I already knew what was going on...) Listening/understanding always comes first when learning a language this way.

I don't know if Irish pubs are as popular in other countries as they are here. All of my French friends LOVE them. Any time we go out they want to go there. I've been to The Coolin's, O'Sullivan's, Connolly's Corner, McBride's and tonight Sebastien and Claire are taking me to their favourite- Guiness Tavern. I guess they're good establishments, but really, what's to obsess over?

They're popular here with the 30+ crowd or the "after work for drinks" crowd ....in the financial downtown core there is one on every corner....
