Dokdo is two very small islands in the Sea of Japan (or as the Korean's call it the East Sea) Both Japan and Korea lay claim to Dokdo, and both claim a long historical and geographical connection with the islets. It seems so ridiculous that the two countries are fighting over this when you see the size of it. I guess it has a lot more to do with the history between the countires, than the actual land. I know that I shouldn't make light of the issue, but I just love to get the kids all riled up over it. Anytime I mention it they'll go on and on about how horrible Japan is and that Dokdo is theirs. (and that its called the East Sea, and that kimchi is so much better than kimauchi- the Japanese version of-you guessed it-kim chi!) If the kids are ever silent and nothing else will work to get them talking, I just bring this up and then I can't shut them up! ha. If you're interested in learning more-google it-its pretty interesting!
