Single Awareness Day

Valentine's Day is a big deal in Korea. Trying to get some chocolate for my students yesterday at Home Plus was unreal. All the ajuma's were bashing me with their carts and ebowing me out of the way. (and its not like there wasn't enough to go around) The main difference is that only females give chocolate today. There is another day in March (I believe) called "White day" and that is when its the guys' turn to do the giving. If you don't recieve chocolate you must eat these Chinese noodles with a black bean sauce to insure that you will get chocolate next year. (I guess that really means that you might never have a "love" again if you don't eat this dish)

Luckily for me I got a huge pile of chocolate and love notes.

I also got a good laughing at. A student of mine's sister is in the other basic 3 class at the same time as mine. Before class starts her sister, Emily has taken to laughing and pointing at me while saying "big hips! big hips!" I found out later that when they say big hips they mean big butt. It didn't bother me at first. I get that I must look pretty big to them in comparison the uncurvy Korean figures, but usually they know not to say anything. I should teach them to call it the jLo!
